Home improvement contract? (Replacement Windows)?

16 March, 2010

Ok I live in the state of Virginia and I signed a contract with Long Windows to have my windows replaced I signed a contract with the sales person telling me that all warranties will be lifetime on the window and labor, anyways today they notified me that an 11 foot bow window would not be warranted lifetime and to make it a lifetime warranty they would have to make modifications to my set up i signed a contract under the impression i am getting an 11 foot bow window however now im being told it would have to a different set up, In this scenario I would like to cancel the order because i have other estimates from home depot stating they could install an 11 foot bow there that comes with the lifetime warranty, but the cancellation time period has passed for the contract i signed with long windows and just today 2 days after the cancellation deadline they are telling me i cannot put in an 11 foot bow window. My question is do i have any rights in this situation? I cannot afford legal advice in these tough times so im hoping the yahoo community would be able to help me out on this one i really need new windows in my hose since they are single pane windows which leak a lot of air and have a really tight budget. Please let me know of your experiences and also let me know what my rights are in this situation and what options i do have. THANKS!

they changed the terms of the contract either cancel the contract or sign a new one

Contract with a window contractor? Cancellation…?

11 March, 2010

Ok, so i had a salesman at my house for long windows last friday, he basically got me to sign a contract telling me I had three days to cancel the job, I called him the next day to inform him i wanted to cancel and i also called him the day before and spoke to him and told him i wanted to cancel the job, however while speaking to him and according to what the contract says I had to mail in a cancellation or deliver it to their office a phone call does not work and he never told me this at any time when i called him TWICE to cancel the job. This is for a custom window job and I know for a fact they have not started making anything since its only 2 days since the cancellation date and they have not come out to make final measurements the sales rep just took minor measurements and told me specifically before anything was made they would have to come out to take measurements. I know im stupid for not reading the contract in its entirety but is there really anything i can do im 23 and i have 0 income saved up except for the small deposit that i signed a check for which was 500 bucks for the window job and my dad is old so he told me while he was at work to this guy would come and give an estimate for the windows this house is not my house its my fathers i wouldnt have signed anything but this guy was in my house for 5 hours and he was really pushing this sale and told me i had three days to cancel i thought i could verbally cancel this on the phone and never realized you had to cancel by mail or hand deliver a cancellation notice. Oh and this job is in the state of Virginia if that means anything.

You have 3 days to cancel - one day left - WELL ????????

Mail a cancellation or deliver it yourself for God sakes. Why are you on here whining when you should be doing?????

If you mail, be sure to take it to the PO to be sure it’s post marked today.

I can’t believe you asked this…

I’m sorry this happened to you.
I would call or go to your bank and cancel your check.

They know they scammed you and won’t want to spend all the money to take you to court.
This what I did long ago and it worked.

Section 8 Consolidation Program

Become a Section 8 Landlord

Applications for Section 8 or Public Housing are always free at your local housing authority if they are accepting applications. Section8programs.com has no affiliation with HUD, the government or your local housing authority. Our mission is to help those that are low income find applications online for various government rental assistance programs nation wide. In addition, we help our clients to discover many other programs that would benefit a low income person. We charge a small fee for our research which is consolidated in our Online Packet. We can not guarantee that your housing authority is accepting applications at this time, but we do update our Online Packet each week with this information.

Section8programs.com also offers a privately funded grant program, the Section 8 Consolidation Program. This program awards small assistance grants for daily expenses, not housing vouchers. Grantees are selected every 48 hours. Applicants for this grant program help determine who is most in need by voting for others at the end of the application process. This process allows our applicants to see who is being granted and why. All of our grantees receive a small assistance check in the mail about four or five days after applying.

The Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher program is a government subsidized housing assistance program for a low income family or individual. The tenant will pay about 30% to 40% of their monthly income towards their rent. Section 8 will pay for (subsidize) the rest.

Landlords must have their property inspected by a division of their local PHA in order to rent to a Section 8 tenant and accept the Section 8 housing voucher. The landlord will prepare their own lease that will be no less than for one year.

The Section 8 Consolidation Program combines low-income grants with subsidized housing resources for a low income family or individual. This information and application is provided to all applicants in our Section 8 and Subsidized Housing Online Packet. The Section 8 Consolidation Program is a privately funded grant program and is not affiliated with the government, HUD or your local PHA. The grants awarded are small assistance grants intended to help with daily expenses like food or bills.

The Section 8 and Subsidized Housing Online Packet was designed to eliminate certain obstacles. Some of these obstacles include: non awareness of various subsidized housing programs and a shortage of landlords able or willing to accept Section 8 tenants.

By urging landlords nationwide to participate in government subsidized ren

Your question is too long. All you have to do is provide a link to that information. All of this informatin you can see yourself on the HUD website. It is a scam to make money, it is not a government website. It is just someone selling nothing for $12. You cannot apply online. You have to apply to the Housing Agency where you live and go on a waitlist. Don’t believe it. They won’t help you with anything.

How much more do you think I should pay?

08 March, 2010

My wife and I are entrepreneurs and this year is actually looking pretty good for us. Our adjusted gross for 2010 is probably going to be about $330,000. We’ve worked very hard for many years to get things to this point but I think most of you on here think we are somehow evil capitalists.

However, we are estimating our taxes for 2010 so we can pay the IRS their pound of flesh.

Our federal income taxes are estimated to be $94,042.
State (Virginia) income taxes will be about $18,745
Self-employment taxes should be about $28,152.
Personal property taxes on our cars about $3,000.
Property tax on our house about $4,000.
Sales taxes on everything we buy will be about $5,000.

For a grand total of $152,939, which is 46% of our $330k.

For 2011, however, I anticipate our situation will be much worse, as not only will the Bush tax cuts expire (which will probably hit most of you too whether you know it or not) but our tax rate above $250k will probably go up even more.

How much higher should it go? How much more of our earnings should we need to cough up? 60%? 80%? Give me a number that you think is fair.
Oh and please don’t try to wriggle out of it by saying that we need to close loopholes or stop tax shelters etc. Give me a freakin NUMBER. If you could wave a magic wand, how much of my income should be taken away? What’s fair to you?
Drixnot

You get all those things too - do YOU pay $150k in taxes?

You’re going to have to scale back your earnings. realistically right now the government is a full partner in every dollar YOU earn. This would be unacceptable to me. You’d be better off making less, working less and taking home about the same. Alot of people are coming to that conclusion and we can expect to see a huge slowdown in 2011.

What’s a "fair" tax rate for me?

08 March, 2010

** I’m asking this a 2nd time because only ONE person actually answered my question the first time ** I want a number - either a dollar amount or a percentage.

Please don’t go into a diatribe about what I get for my taxes or whatever. I never even said what I was paying was too much. Is what I am paying fair? Will it be MORE fair next year when it’s about $175,000 or so?
Drixnot could you PLEASE answer my question?

There are several rates according to Mike Huckabee and Ron Paul. They would do away with the IRS and have a fair tax. It would be a Federal Sales Tax. I have heard that it would between 15 to 20% sales tax. They haven’t said if the states would be able to tax. You live in Virginia. I lived in Fredericksburg and I moved to Tennessee because of the taxes. Tennessee doesn’t have a state income tax, nor do we have a personal property tax. I would like to move back to Fredericksburg, but I won’t because of the taxes.
